Built in Singapore in 1963, Passagemaker, for many cruising enthusiasts, is a beacon of revolutionary boat design and workmanship.
The historic Robert Beebe-designed boat was the culmination of a quest for an ocean-crossing cruising powerboat. She logged countless crossings under her hull in the decades that followed and went on to inspire many of us to venture beyond the reef.

She is also, of course, our magazine’s namesake.
After a regal life on the world’s seas she was abandoned in Trinidad, a derelict vessel slowly sinking on her mooring. Locals knew of the vessel’s past and help guide our guests, Laura and Chris Remacle to her rightful owners. The couple struck a deal, paying $2,000 for her.

As you will hear, the Remacles were up to the task. This long-range cruising couple, who made four transatlantic passages from Cape Town to Trinidad and refit a half-dozen vessels, went about the significant take of bringing the classic vessel back to form.
