A few years back, four college friends made a plan for an epic adventure following graduation. And they actually went through with it.

Borrowing a family boat, a North Pacific 28, the four women—Erin Beaudoin, Emery Hansell, Uhane Johnson and Annie Means—spent over two months on a cruise up the Inside Passage of British Columbia, inspired by the century-old adventures of trailblazer Muriel Blanchet.

Blanchet, the widowed sea captain, with her five children and dog in tow, piloted a 22-foot boat up the Inside Passage. Her book, The Curve in Time, documents the trip. They read her book and decided to cast lines 100 years after Blanchet and have their own adventure.

While the women as a whole had limited experience in boating, they took courses and did as much preparation as they could leading up to the trip. But as you’ll hear, nothing could have prepared them for what they learned along the way.
