Zimmerman Marine, the employee-owned yard with multiple locations in several states along the eastern seaboard, is adding a location in Oriental, N.C.
The yard, founded in 1981 and known for repair, maintenance, restoration and customization of cruising vessels, has reached a deal with Deaton’s Yacht Service and will open under its own name in Oriental this summer.
“Over four decades, the Deaton family built up a first-class facility, developed a talented team of technicians, and earned an excellent reputation,” president and founder Steve Zimmerman said in a statement. “We share their values with respect to customers and employees and look forward to building on their success.”
Zimmerman’s seven service yards extend from the Chesapeake Bay area to South Carolina, with locations in Deale, Mary., Deltaville and Mathews, Va., Southport and Holden Beach, N.C., and Charleston S.C.
“Oriental fits perfectly into our current locations, filling a critical gap between our Southport yard and our Chesapeake Bay yards,” said Zimmerman.
John Deaton, owner of Deaton Yacht Services, is confident that the Zimmerman team will continue to deliver the high level of service its customers are accustomed to.
“The more we learned about ZMI the more comfortable we felt about the transfer, and this move will ensure that the property continues as a working boatyard,” Deaton said.
