The U.S. Coast Guard is moving northward in its search for two firefighters who went missing while boating. The Coast Guard says it is looking as far north as the waters of Jacksonville and into Georgia. Two 87-foot cutters and an HC 130 aircraft were underway Monday and a host of volunteers.

Tens of thousands of square miles have been searched along half of the Atlantic coast of Florida.

Missing are Brian McCluney of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and and Justin Walker of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue in Virginia. The two left from Port Canaveral for a day of fishing at what is known as the 8A reef.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Chief Keith Powers spoke to the news media on Monday.

“This is still absolutely a rescue mission,” Powers said. “We’re talking about a decorated combat veteran, we’re talking about a firefighter.
