Haulout facilities in many places in the Caribbean basin are rare, and where they do exist, they are often ramshackle affairs. That’s why cruisers in the western Caribbean should be happy to hear that a marina and storage yard on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala has purchased a new 45-ton hydraulic trailer.
A modern resort, the Hotel Marina & Yacht Club Nana Juana has 60 slips, 160-boat shaded storage on land and hard-standing for more than 400 boats of up to 80 feet in length. The new HOSTAR trailer is 53 feet long by 11 wide, and is moved with a Lobbo 1254 tractor. With six fully adjustable hydraulic arms, the trailer secures various hull types with up to an 8-foot draft.
This is the first HOSTAR trailer that can handle large catamarans, which is significant because the facilities that can haul these extra-wide vessels are even rarer in the Caribbean than monohull haulout facilities. Marina Nana Juana can haul cats up to 65 feet LOA.
The marina permits cruisers to live and work on their own boats while on the hard, as well as employ whom they like to do the work.
HOSTAR Marine is headquartered in Wareham, Massachusetts, and boasts its willingness to customize any model to accommodate the special needs of marinas,
boatyards and repair facilities. The haul-out trailer at Nana Juana was a custom job. Visit www.hostarmarine.com to learn more.
