New Boat: 80 Sunreef Power Eco Yacht

This Polish power cat is fitted with over 2,000 square feet of photovoltaics via its proprietary “solar skin” and can be built with either hybrid or fully electric propulsion.

The 80 Power Eco launched in its native Poland in late January and splashed to the public at March’s Dubai International Boat Show.

The most notable feature of the vessel is what the builder has dubbed its “solar skin,” which covers over 2,000 square feet of surface area. The flexible solar panels have been seamlessly integrated into the composite hull and superstructure in a process that was developed in-house by Sunreef and can produce up to 40kW of power.

A fully custom build, owners have a choice of equipping the 80 with fully electric or hybrid engines for the “perfect blend of autonomy, energy efficiency and silent operation.”

Sunreef claims its ultralight battery pack is 30 percent lighter than common lithium battery systems, giving the power cat a superior power-to-weight ratio. The boat can also be fitted with wind turbines and “high-performance kites” for even more power generation and range.

The hull and layout are based on the Sunreef 80, which I toured at the Cannes Yachting Festival a few years back. Like that vessel, the 80 Power Eco is bestowed with a truly massive beam of 39 feet, 4 inches for about 3,875 square feet of living space.

Hull No. 1 is equipped with four staterooms with queen or king berths, as well as crew quarters and a hot tub on her commodious flying bridge.
