The Art Deco style is eclectic and modern and combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery. It also describes the interior of the newly launched Nordhavn 68, Karajas.

Interior designer Scott Cole of Seattle-based Ardeo Design incorporated the bold geometric shapes, rectilinear elements and simple, clean lines that characterize the Deco movement. According to Nordhavn, the company’s big-boat buyers are increasingly eschewing the cherry or teak interiors most of us associate with “trawler,” but Karajas was the first to get a Deco treatment.

“A Nordhavn may in theory have traditional lines, but it is, in fact, a modern and cutting-edge machine,” says Cole. “An avant-garde look certainly is not out of place in a Nordhavn.”

Because weight was not an issue, Cole says he was able to fit the boat with granite or marble countertops, not just in the galley, but throughout the boat.
