With the Sea Hawker, our goal was to design a boat for owners looking to spend extended time on the water with a flexible layout to suit a range of needs and conditions.

Sea Hawker’s profile has a long waterline and large pilothouse that’s reminiscent of commercial craft on the North Sea, but with a modern twist for recreational use.

The main deck is a focal point, with expansive side glass to offer unobstructed views from the salon and galley amidships. There’s more glass on the after bulkhead so the skipper can keep an eye on things in the cockpit.

Within the salon, we added a central passage that leads onto the Portuguese bridge and foredeck lounge. It is also a safe place to cross the boat in all weather conditions. We would add a wing station here for docking.

An atrium-style glass roof occupies the forward section above the enclosed helm, which is accessed by a portside stairwell. Owners can choose layouts here—our sketches show the combined wheelhouse and observation lounge, but the space can also be a main-deck master stateroom. For the latter, the belowdecks area becomes an amidships salon or gym.

The flybridge is shaded by a hardtop with the helm to port and alfresco dining to starboard. The area can be enclosed with isinglass for four-season cruising.

The cockpit, which can be accessed from the fully protected side decks or from the lower deck, is designed for activities. The latter half lowers hydraulically to drop divers or swimmers into the sea. With more than 23 feet of beam, there is room for a pair of 15-foot tenders served by a heavy-duty davit. With the tenders on the boat deck, the area can be enclosed and transformed into a winter garden in colder climates, or shaded with a canopy while summering in the Mediterranean.

Sea Hawker’s full-height engine room ensures ease of maintenance for mechanicals, with walkaround access to her twin engines. The space is given significant sound-deadening insulation, and there are removable hatches in the cockpit sole for replacement of larger components. Access is from the lazarette, which can hold enough stores for weeks of off-grid roaming.

Ideally, we’d encourage owners to launch from Harlingen, the small but charming port town in the Netherlands’ Friesland region, bound for Denmark and then onto the vast fjords of Norway, where Sea Hawker’s workboat-inspired profile and traditional styling will blend in nicely in any harbor.
