Steve Zimmerman is the Troubleshooter columnist for PassageMaker magazine. He teaches our TrawlerFest “Everything You Need To Know About Diesel Engines” with the magazine’s technical editor Nigel Calder. His day job is presiding over Zimmerman Marine, a group of four boatyards in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.
This interview is about the latter. What differentiates Zimmerman Marine from other East Coast yards? We were filming Zimmerman as part of our first Boater’s University course on diesel engine maintenance and repair and decided to devote some of our video time to a “60-Minutes” style Q&A.

The “Marine Diesel Maintenance & Troubleshooting” seminar consists of 11 classes, each with a test the end. The total duration of the instruction is about three hours. There were 56 sign-ups even before the classes went live.
