We’d like to introduce you to Piccadilly (she prefers Dilly), an 8-year old, female, orange tabby cat who has lived aboard Three@Sea with us for six years now. We have lived, and been cruising full-time, aboard our 43-foot Nordhavn trawler since August of 2008, when Dilly just turned two. Dilly has now cruised almost 30,000 nm, visiting 21 U.S. states, 4 Canadian provinces, and 6 foreign countries. While the big ship’s name, Three@Sea, refers to Dilly’s crew, Kathryn, David, and Ayla Besemer, the dingy is named for her, Dilly Too.

Dilly insists on being involved in every aspect of Three@Sea’s operations and cruising. She stands watch, helps Kathryn with provisioning, plans routes with the family, inspects all of David’s boat project work, oversees family festivities, vigilantly stays in the pilothouse when underway, helps Ayla with her school work, and occasionally even writes a blog. She runs a tight ship, and keeps her crew in line. Dilly enjoys the lifestyle, and plans to keep going as long as her crew is willing.

This just in: Stand by for an announcement about a contest that will include Pets Aboard submitted so far and for the next few months. So keep on submitting. Cute counts.

Send pictures of your dog or cat to [email protected], and we’ll put him or her on display like Dilly. Ideally you will include the names of the human companions, the make, model and name of boat, homeport, and a paragraph that provides context for the image or describes what makes your pet special. If you’ve got the image in high-resolution, that would allow us to publish it in the magazine, or a calendar…We just don’t know where this will lead yet, but it’s fun.
