PassageMaker’s Editor-in-Chief has written a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry asking that their new policy of engagement include a restoration of the right for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba on their own boats. In his open letter posted on his Loose Cannon blog, Peter Swanson argues that cruisers are the very best people to carry out the President’s new policy of engagement.

Meanwhile PassageMaker has organized a “Cuba Update” seminar at TrawlerFest next month, led by Capt. Cheryl Barr, author of the two-volume Cruising Guide to Cuba. The seminar is an effort to counteract the tremendous amount of misinformation about taking a boat to Cuba that has appeared online since the President’s announcement last week. TrawlerFest is being held at the new Rivera Beach, Florida, municipal marina.
