
Curt Merel Marsh, 64, of Hartsville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly June 16, 2014.
Curt was born June 28, 1949 in Greensburg, Indiana, to Gilfred and Janet Marsh.
He graduated from Jackson High School in 1967 and attended Ball State University for 2 years.
Curt had three children with his first wife, Ruth: Tony Lee Marsh (wife Julie), Nicole Lynn Paquette (husband Pat), and Kimberly Ann Keith (husband Matt). His second wife, Joyce Hodges, who, he married in 2003 survives him with his stepson, Darren Gerald Chaykowsky.
Curt was an Indiana State Trooper Sergeant and undercover detective. After an early retirement in 1978, and spent the better part of his adult life in Sarasota, FL.
Being the entrepreneur he was, Curt opened an efficiency resort called Anchor Down Resorts, ran a charter boat fishing business and then in 1979 he opened Capt. Curt’s Crab & Oyster Bar in Siesta Key, Florida, before moving on to real estate brokerage business, then opening a very large yacht brokerage business called Regatta Pointe Yacht Sales & K&A Yachts.
While operating his businesses, Capt. Curt hosted a local weekly talk show called Let’s Talk Boating, which educated potential boat buyers and current boat owners and Yacht Showcase where he featured his new and brokerage boats showing the public all the features and benefits of each boat for sale. Capt. Curt was known as the Trawler King in the boating industry, he could tell you all the good and bad things of every trawler on the market.
In 1996, Capt. Curt started to design and build ocean crossing trawlers and cruising in Bradenton, FL, China and in Canada. He chose to semi-retire and opened a small brokerage business called Capt. Curt’s Trawlers & Yachts, LLC. As the boat business as declining from the bad economy, he chose to “=retire to his hometown after his parents passed away; he and Joyce moved into his parents 1840’s farm home and spent three years remodeling the home place, it is beautiful.
Curt is going to be loved and missed by his eight grandchildren, two sisters Carolyn Bannen (husband Lee) and Marilyn Loyd (husband Robert), multiple nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews that thought he was a very special man.
There will be no services at this time. A celebration of Capt. Curt’s life will be held in Indiana this August and in Florida between Christmas and New Year’s per his wishes. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com and [email protected].
