JW Yachts of Florida has been chosen as the U.S. representative for the award winning Garcia Trawlers. JW Yachts is operated by the Grand Dame of East Coast trawler sales, Judy Waldman.
A true oceangoing trawler with an aluminum hull, a steadying sail, stabilizers and bow and stern thrusters, the Garcia Trawler 54 is $1.7 million with a single 185-hp John Deere diesel. The company launched the yacht at the Cannes Boat Show in August and piloted her across the ocean for its U.S. debut at the 2012 Annapolis Powerboat Show, facing 20-foot seas and 50-knot winds during the 4,800-nautical-mile transit. Now she’s about to re-cross the Atlantic, beginning in early June, to make the circuit of European boat shows.
The Garcia 54, built by Grand Large Yachting of France, recently won the “European Power Boat of 2013” award. The award is granted by journalists representing the yachting press from 11 European countries, are recognition of the group’s ability to design and produce yachts that meet the specific requirements of long distance blue water cruising. The three shipyards of the Grand Large group—Allures Yachting, Outremer Yachting and Garcia Yachting—focus on bringing to market unique boats, specifically designed to enjoy being at sea.
Before becoming a broker in 1995, Waldman cruised extensively herself, primarily as owner of large motorsailers. She worked with prestigious firms such as Richard Bertram, as well as smaller brokerage companies. Her focus on trawlers began in 1997 with the sale of Eden Bound, Cape Horn Trawler’s Hull No. 1.
