The results are in and we have a winner in PassageMaker’s first ever Float ‘n’ Fetch photo contest for top dog of 2014. ICOM is the sponsor and the top three winners will receive handheld VHF radios.
Bailey from Kuttawa, Kentucky, is our first prize winner. This Boykin spaniel has cruised more than 2,000 river miles aboard N0 Regrets, a 36-foot Albin trawler. Skipper Barry Young says she most enjoys retrieving her ball while at anchor. Young will receive an ICOM M92D handheld VHF.

Second prize goes to Mimi from St. Petersburg, Florida. Mimi was photographed in her tropical uniform, decked out for shore leave at Pipe Creek in the Exumas region of the Bahamas. Mimi’s boat is a 1979 DeFever 43 from St. Petersburg, Florida that is captained by J. Bradford Hines. Hines will receive an ICOM M36 handheld VHF radio.
“What an awesome pack of boat dogs! Definitely some tough competition. But have to give the edge to Mimi. She is one VERY special pup, plus has the edge of being a Defever boat dog,” commenter Elaine Ebaugh writes.
Third prize goes to happy Charlie, a Labrador-golden mix from La Conner, Washington. Charlie is shown doing one of his favorite things, being up on the flybridge. “He will literally take a good run and climb the ladder himself to get up there,” says Chip Smith, skipper of a Carver sedan named Compass Rose. Smith will receive an M24 handheld VHF
“From one Charlie to another, this Charlie is the best first mate a captain could ever have! Tons of personality and super cute too!” writes commenter Charles Clutter.
All the ICOM prizes are waterproof and will float. And they are eminently fetchable, hence the name of the contest. ICOM says the radios will be shipped to winners in January.
