The first steel hull in the builder’s new series arrived in the South of France on her own bottom, completing a 2,300-nautical-mile maiden voyage.

In mid-July, Outer Reef Yachts announced that the 780 Adventure, the first boat completed after its strategic merger with Lynx Yachts, had completed an impressive shakedown cruise—a 2,300-plus nautical-mile voyage from its Dutch shipyard to La Napoule, France.

Hull No. 1 of the Adventure series will remain in the South of France for exclusive showings before making her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, held from Sept. 9-14.

According to Outer Reef’s President and CEO, Jeff Druek, and Trevor De Faoite, Managing Director of Outer Reef Europe, the steel 780 was a comfortable and smooth operator on the leg from Gibraltar to La Napoule. Her efficient hull design returned a fuel burn of 5 gallons per hour at eco-cruise, which returned a range of over 5,000 nautical miles.

The hull design is fast-displacement, which gives owners the characteristics of a full-displacement boat for seakeeping, plus an 18-knot top hop with optional Cat C32s, Druek says. Standard power is a pair of 425-hp Cummins diesels.

Bernd Weel, a Dutch naval architect, designed the Adventure 780 to appeal to a younger demographic that wants exploration capabilities.

They also have different ideas about what boating should be, says Druek: “They need to carry a lot of toys. They want to take their kids. They want to go far afield and bump icebergs and travel the fjords in Norway or cross the pond.”

Accommodations can be four staterooms plus two crew cabins forward—all en suite—or a full-beam master stateroom amidships with five staterooms below.
