Leopard’s Leap, The Tale of Robertson and Caine ($20) is a handsome volume that summarizes the boatbuilder’s 30-plus years in business.
Packed with archival photos, vintage advertisements and illustrations, and written by longtime employee Rob Kamhoot, the book delves into the company’s beginnings as a single-shed boatbuilder. Led by its founders, John Robertson and Jerry Caine, Leopard graduated to maxi yachts that could endure the tempestuous seas off Cape Town, South Africa. The yard saw its share of triumphs and failures, eventually shifting focus to family-friendly craft.
Leopard later secured a deal to build a line of sailboats and powerboats for charter fleets, and the company began to grow. Today, it’s a global powerhouse, with a 2,000-person workforce split among six facilities in Cape Town. Leopard is also the largest catamaran builder in the Southern Hemisphere, and in the top three on the planet. For copies, email [email protected]
