Charlie, also known as Charlie Brown, is a Lab/golden retriever cross rescued when he was one. Charlie is five now, and he has just as much spunk and energy as he did at a year old.
Charlie’s The boat is Compass Rose, a 32-foot twin diesel Carver. Apparently only one of two in the Pacific Northwest. Her current homeport is La Conner, Washington. Although at the time of the picture she may have been in Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes..
Charlie’s Mom is Sandi Smith and his Dad and boat owner is Chip Kromer of Bellingham .
This picture of Charlie was taken on one of our summer boating vacations in the San Juan Islands. We had just grabbed a mooring buoy in Prevost Harbor at Stuart Island and were sitting down to lunch when Charlie poked his head in the window to survey the saloon table to see what was being served for lunch.
He is quite the character and absolutely loves being on the boat. Probably because he gets lots of walks on the islands where he can sniff out the deer and other animals.
Welcome to Pets Aboard’s special “12 Dogs of Christmas” edition, and Charlie is the star of “Boxing Day.”
With dozens of dogs in the queue, we decided that we would pick up the pace over the holidays. So every day between now and Jan. 5—the 12 days of Christmas—we will feature a new mutt.
Usually we do this Friday afternoon (or Saturday morning when we get behind), and since we have dozens of entries, it will take a while to post them all so be patient.
Send pictures of your dog or cat to [email protected], and we’ll put him or her on display like Charlie. Ideally you will include the names of the human companions, the make, model and name of boat, homeport, and a paragraph that provides context for the image or describes what makes your pet special. If you’ve got the image in high-resolution, that would allow us to publish it in the magazine, or a calendar…We just don’t know where this will lead yet, but it’s fun.
Though not exactly a contest, the editors are thinking of providing some kind of material reward to anyone who sends a truly striking image. Cute counts!
