A proposed new Publix supermarket in Hollywood, Florida, would include a substantial dock for boaters on the Intracoastal Waterway. Hollywood is just south of Fort Lauderdale en route to Miami.
The Sun-Sentinel newspaper of Fort Lauderdale reported that the Hollywood parcel would be transformed into a three-story, waterfront building that would be home to the Publix, a two-level parking garage for cars and a “very wide dock” for boats. The paper quoted Albert Benalloun, president of the Miami Beach-based TransAmerican, which is the developer.
“We’re going to try to make it as big as possible,” Benalloun was quoted as saying Tuesday. “We’re going to try to get as many boats as we can.”
The parcel in question is south of the city’s South Lake near the Diplomat Beach Resort in the beach area.
