In December 2011 the Lake Havasu Marine Association, after a nearly year-long permitting process, initiated a half-mile dredging project to create a new deep-water channel so boaters could safely navigate between the lake and the upper river through Topock Gorge.
The association said thousands of recreational boaters have used the channel for the past 3-1/2 years. Although it is still navigable, the natural silting process of the river has reduced the depth of the channel at the southern half.
To restore the channel to its intended depth, a tune-up dredging will start on July 27 and last about 10 days. The association said the dredging will be done at night to minimize inconvenience to boaters.
The association said “Dredge-Deeper” will be fully privately funded with money the group raises. The association said it is a 501-C3 non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible; all funds raised for “Dredge-Deeper” will be used exclusively for that project.
