Curt Merel Marsh, the founder of Regatta Pointe Yacht Sales and Capt. Curt’s Trawlers & Yachts, the host of two Florida boating talk shows and known by many as “the Trawler King,” died unexpectedly June 16. He was 64.
An Indiana native, Marsh retired from the Indiana State Police in 1978, and his obituary said he spent the better part of his adult life in Florida.
He opened an efficiency resort called Anchor Down Resorts and ran a charter fishing business. In 1979, he opened Capt. Curt’s Crab & Oyster Bar in Siesta Key, Fla., before eventually opening Regatta Pointe Yacht Sales & K&A Yachts.
Marsh also hosted “Let’s Talk Boating,” which educated potential boat buyers and current boat owners, and “Yacht Showcase,” where he featured his new and brokerage boats. Marsh was known for his understanding of trawlers.
In 1996, he began to design and build oceangoing trawlers and cruising in Bradenton, Fla., China and Canada. He opened Capt. Curt’s Trawlers & Yachts, a small brokerage business.
As the boat industry declined because of a poor economy, he decided to retire in his Indiana hometown.
