New Journey is Hull No. 18 of Nordhavn Yachts’ second-largest model, the N96. She was recently delivered to her owners at Nordhavn headquarters in Dana Point, Calif.
New Journey immediately cast off lines for her maiden voyage—a six-week, 1,500-nautical-mile trip exploring the Sea of Cortez before heading north up the Pacific coast.

New Journey then spent the summer in Alaska as the first installment in a six-year, around-the-world trip that will commence in the spring. For exploring remote anchorages, the boat carries a custom 18-foot tender powered by a diesel outboard, and an electric-powered personal watercraft (each served by a separate davit). The owners are avid scuba enthusiasts, so the vessel also is equipped with a dive locker in her transom and an air compressor to fill tanks.
A full-time crew of four will join a rotating cast of friends and family, who can relax at her two bars (on the flybridge and abaft the galley), with room for 10 to dine alfresco in the cockpit. A second dining area defines the after end of the flybridge, as does her hot tub. There are three en suite guest staterooms and a convertible guest space in the skylounge, in addition to the master suite.

Ardeo Design was tasked with creating New Journey’s interior motif, emphasizing a number of communal and individual spaces. The Ardeo team utilized mosaic glass tiles and stone countertops throughout the vessel, set off by leather-wrapped handrails, and quartersawn and crown-cut veneers of walnut.
At approximately 9 knots, the N96 has a reported range of 4,000 nautical miles. Onboard machinery includes ABT stabilizers, hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, two (40-kW and 27.5-kW) gensets, a universal AC electrical system for worldwide use, a 2,000-gallon-per-day watermaker, and lithium battery banks that provide nine hours of quiet-ship operation.
