Nordhavn has announced two new models–a twin-screw 80-footer (above) and the N475, which is intended to make the N40 and N43 obsolete. Here is the Nordhavn announcement:
The N80 was born out of the demand for a boat that bridged the gap between the Nordhavn 76 and the Nordhavn 86. This new yacht will be powered by twin 375 hp John Deere engines, will have four staterooms and room for two crew. Optional lay-outs will include a captain’s cabin behind the bridge or an upper level owner’s suite behind the bridge in lieu of the sky lounge.
“For some, an 86 is just too big,” said vice president Jim Leishman. “At 80 feet, this boat will be that much more manageable.”
The boat will feature a beautiful, functional layout and modern styling, he says.
Tooling is expected to complete in about six months at the South Coast factory, with N80 No. 1 launching in 2019.
The Nordhavn 475 will be based on the hull of the Nordhavn 43 but she will be a much different boat, starting with a completely new deck and flybridge. The N475 represents the sleeker, elongated look of modern Nordhavns with the incorporation of an extended cockpit and boat deck, providing not only a more streamlined profile, but also allowing for greater space in the cockpit and more room up top for toys and a bigger tender.
The N475 follows in the footsteps of the Nordhavn 52, 60 and 63, 68, 76, and 96 models, all which expanded upon existing hulls and wound up being the more desired model. “Despite what critics maintain, anytime you lengthen a boat, you improve its performance,” says Leishman.
The needs and desires of Nordhavn buyers have changed since the first Nordhavn was built nearly 30 years ago. Along the way, we’ve adjusted our product line to correspond with the times, and now as we close in on the launch of the 600th Nordhavn, we’re once again modifying our model line-up. With the introduction of the N475, she will become the smallest of the new-build Nordhavns available, making obsolete both the Nordhavn 40 and the Nordhavn 43, whose molds will soon be destroyed.
Although Nordhavn was founded on smaller boats, and the Nordhavn 40 was a passion project for PAE co-owner Leishman, he and his partners recognized that clients looking for new construction are gravitating toward Nordhavns around 50 feet and above. “We wanted to provide an exceptional mid-range boat at a greater value,” said Leishman. “The goal is to keep pricing comparable to what a new N43 would cost.”
Like the N43, the N475 is being built at the South Coast factory in China. Tooling construction will be underway shortly and the first hull is already sold
