Almost simultaneous with the Newport International Boat Show is the west coast’s Lake Union Boats Afloat Show in Seattle, Sept 10-14.
Two new Northwest-built boats will debut at this show: the Nordic Tugs 49-footer, with a new hull designed by NA Howard Apollonio, and with an update of the traditional deckhouse styling created by Lynn Senour in 1980. The Nordic Tug 49 will be a two-stateroom boat and also has a shallower draft of 3-feet 11-inches to make her an ideal inland and coastal waters cruiser. For more information on Nordic Tugs visit nordictugs.com.
Also debuting is the 49-foot American Tug, which was built on stretched 41AT hull. The new 49 features two staterooms and an extended saloon and galley, plus spacious cockpit, which all contribute to an increase in living spaces. For more information on American Tugs visit americantugs.com.

LeBlanc 50
Based on the high-volume, very seaworthy hulls developed around the commercial fishery of Nova Scotia, the new LeBlanc 50 from the board of Laurie McGowan and the well-known LeBlanc Brothers Boatbuilders should give those venturing well offshore a sense of safety and livability. The flybridge is protected by a hardtop and offers outstanding seating plus a helm console large enough to accommodate a full suite of marine electronics. The boat deck has ample room for a crane, as well as a 13-foot dinghy and a 12-foot sailing dinghy, built at the request of the owner by Neil LeBlanc. Full-sized kitchen appliances and massive counter spaces typify the galley, which adjoins the pilothouse. Visibility from the helm is excellent, especially aft through large windows in the aft saloon bulkhead. Cherry woodwork with a white trim is found throughout the boat. The engine room is massive, as is the lazarette, allowing excellent access to all equipment. For more information call 902.663.2927 or visit leblancboats.com.

On The Horizon: Fall 2008
Island Pilot DSe Hybrid 12M
America’s first solar/diesel/electric hybrid cruising yacht is designed to let you cruise silently for approximately four hours at speeds up to 7 knots, then recharge its batteries with solar power while you’re riding on the hook, or using the diesels to recharge. A massive 6 kW photo voltaic (PV) array mounted atop the deckhouse gathers sunshine and passes a constant flow of energy to the electrical system, providing drive for the electrical engines and, through the pure sine wave inverters, 120 VAC power for appliances like the fridge and microwave or even the entertainment system. Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer
While Pacific Asian Enterprises, the parent company of Nordhavn, spent the last 15 years creating and refining passagemaking offshore yachts, they have never forgotten their roots. PAE was also the builder of Mason world-cruising sailboats, and with that expertise in the background, the company will launch the Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer. Equipped with 750 gallons of fuel and powered by a Lugger 1066 T diesel, the new 56 MS will have a range of 3,000nm under power alone while sporting a main and jib that will offer the potential for even more extended cruising range. An aft extension of the wheelhouse hardtop over the trawler-style aft deck offers good weather protection, and wide side decks lead along both sides to the foredeck as well as an on-deck sailing cockpit and steering amidships. The wheelhouse has excellent views in all directions, and offers a second well-protected helm station. The interior includes a standing-height engine room, large sea-going galley, guest and master staterooms. For more information, call 949.496.4848 or visit nordhavn.com.

Hampton Endurance 650 LRC
With a design brief to create a hull that would cruise efficiently at 8 to 14 knots and make speeds of 16 to 18 knots when weather or schedules grow problematic, the new Hampton Endurance 650 LRC from the board of Howard Appollonio is a bold advance in hull design for long distance cruisers. This hybrid hull, which was tank tested in Vancouver, BC by Vison SciTec, combines displacement and planing hull characteristics with a unique split chine that work together to reduce pitch and roll. As built for Anchor Yacht Sales, the new Hampton 650 LRC is a fully equipped cruiser, ready to go with everything except three options: satellite TV, watermaker, and dinghy. The custom AYS package includes two ISO Boost transformers, custom décor, and $40,000 worth of marine electronics. For more information, contact Anchor Yacht Sales at 954.797.0030 or anchoryt.com.
