The Life Aquatic With Stephenie Hollyman

A longtime liveaboard, Hollyman was a New York harbor tugboat cook, a Fulbright scholar and a photojournalist for major TV networks. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Stephenie Hollyman

Stephenie Hollyman, is an intriguing character, to say the least.

We were aware that she was a longtime liveaboard in the San Francisco Bay area on her 36-foot Sundowner trawler, along with her dog Zippy.

We also knew that she was a writer, as she has been a contributor for Passagemaker for some time.

But her journey as a seasoned captain, an author of 3 books, and a photo and video journalist for major networks almost sounds like a fable, with stops as a New York Harbor tugboat cook, a Fulbright scholar, and a lower Manhattan resident that shared a loft with a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

It’s a fascinating tale, and like many of us, it started with a tiny boat.
