Television station WFLA has been tracking multiple shark sightings dating back to July 31 along Tampa Bay beaches.

The station has reported four separate sightings of what appears to be either the same shark or from the same breed of shark. Hammerhead sharks have been known to frequent this area of Florida’s West Coast. The great hammerhead shark can grow to 20 feet and nearly a thousand pounds.

Fall is the period of the Florida “mullet run.” These plentiful fish depart Florida’s estuaries and swim southward for the winter, creating a near-shore buffet for predators of all sorts.
