Florida Fish & Wildlife biologists and partners from Lover’s Key State Park and SeaWorld responded recently to a report of a beached 3 1/2-foot manatee on Lover’s Key. This male calf weighed 47 pounds at the time of the rescue and was transported to SeaWorld for rehabilitation. FWC wants to remind the public to never push a stranded manatee or marine animal back out into the water. These animals strand for a reason (orphaned, sick or injured) and need to be assessed by a trained professional prior to release. Please report injured, distressed or dead manatees to the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 1-888-404-FWCC (3922).
