Aspen C110

The three-stateroom model has one-level living, remarkable fuel efficiency and four-season comfort.

An Aspen C110 power catamaran cruising on open water carrying a tender dinghy mounted on the stern davit system.

The 38-foot C110 from Washington-based builder Aspen Power Catamarans is the newest boat in an outboard-powered model line that runs from 35 to 44 feet. The three-stateroom boat is designed to appeal to a range of buyers, offering power train choices and optional equipment to augment its robust standards, all in a towable package.

Her layout is primed for coastal cruisers or Loopers. The cockpit has an L-shape settee in its after section and a duo of bar seats smartly placed to extend the party from the dinette in the salon. The galley takes up most of the salon’s port side, with a pair of helm seats forward. Three staterooms, including a king in the forward master, a portside single berth and a double berth to starboard, share one head. Stowage and built-ins ensure off-grid cruising for extended periods.

The C110 utilizes Aspen’s proa design with a port hull that is 35% thinner that the starboard hull, powered by a single diesel or outboards. The boats are generally delivered with a smaller engine on the port side, and the standard package on the C110 follows suit, offering Mercury outboards rated at 175 hp and 225 hp apiece. A pair of 225-hp Mercurys is an optional power package. It is Aspen’s good fortune that both engines share the same 3.4-liter V-6 and weigh the same, requiring no fine-tuning of the motor pod area to account for the extra weight.

The Mercs can be ordered with larger, 115-amp alternators that will power the C110’s air conditioning and recharge the optional Victron lithium-ion-phosphate battery suite. Both are optional equipment that I’d add for generator-free cruising. I’d also add the Wallas diesel heater for shoulder season, and the builder’s E-Z Davit for smooth launch and retrieval of a tender.

I would also opt to up the fuel capacity to 180 gallons, nearly 40 percent more that the standard 130 gallons. Aspen’s team says sea trials on Hull No. 1 with the standard power package and larger fuel capacity showed the C110 to be good for 266 nautical miles at 20 knots and 307 nm at 17 knots. At 6 knots, range is 413 nm. All are calculated with a 10 percent d reserve. The C110 has a top speed of 30 knots.
