If cars were like boats, more of us would be more pedestrians. We’re talking maintenance, a lot more maintenance, or as the used to say in the old days, “boat husbandry.” Craig Parkhurst brings science and 20 years of experience to the topic of maintenance in two seminars at TrawlerFest-Anacortes.

Parkhurst, vice-president and general manager of Wheelhouse Technologies, began working at the maintenance services company in 2008 and now oversees its daily operations. He presents two seminars at the Anacortes event, which taken together will help attendees be more efficient and save money.
On Saturday, May 16, 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., the topic is “Under-Maintained Equipment Failures. In his talk, Parkhurst will list maintenance requirements and failure point of several common under-maintained vessel systems and equipment. He then provides detailed maintenance recommendations and walks attendees through the steps required to properly maintain these troublesome components.
On Sunday, May 17: 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., Parkhurst will analyze typical maintenance tasks and highlight those items that an average boater can handle and what should be left to the professionals. For those DIY tasks, he will review some of the common tools and resources required to complete them safely and correctly. In addition, he will discuss the common approaches to maintenance and how to become more predictive in your approaches in an effort to reduce failure rates, increase longevity and extend maintenance intervals.
TrawlerFest runs Tuesday through Sunday, May 12-17 at the Cap Sante Marina, but the available seminars–there are more than 20–begin Wednesday and run through Sunday and the boat show portion of the event begins Thursday.
