A $9 million renovation to the Harbor East Marina in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is complete. The 184-slip facility began the update to old floating docks and electrical systems in 2016. The construction took place during the fall and winter seasons, according to BizJournals.com.
Eric Bradley, vice president of operations at owner Oasis Marinas, said the marina looks better and can accommodate larger boats. The new layout includes single-berth docks rather than two boats to a slip.
“The old facility, while well-designed, had reached the end of its natural life,” Bradley told the paper. “The new marina is designed to be practical for the full life of the marina, which should be about 40 years.”
As part of the renovation, a lounge has been updated, and the owners added a 1,600-square-foot event space.
About 30 percent of the project was funded by state and federal grants. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Federal Boating Infrastructure Grant Program provided $1.6 million, and Maryland’s State Waterway Improvement Fund awarded $900,000. Oasis Marina covered the remaining cost.
The updates were finished in time for MarineMax’s Yacht Expo, which takes place July 21-22. TrawlerFest-Baltimore will be on site later, Sept. 25-29.
Bradley said the event is an opportunity for individuals interested in boating to “see our facility and hopefully choose it as their home port or a place to visit while traveling.”
