You’ve heard people say it. You see it posted on Facebook: “It’s not the destination but the journey.” Well, those folks are only half right. TrawlerFest-Florida investigates both sides of that old chestnut. The March event in Stuart has seminars on the Great Loop and ICW—definitely journeys—and three more that take a look some excellent places to cruise by boat—destinations.
In “The Great Loop: How To Prepare, What To Expect,” Kim Russo, executive director of the America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association, will give a detailed briefing with plenty of time to answer questions. She will also address which boats are most suitable and how to budget. The Intracoastal Waterway is a subset of the Loop, and Captains Chris & Alyse Caldwell drill down on that subject when they brief attendees for “Cruising the ICW.”
“Cruising Hidden Florida” with Ken and Becky Fickett and Peter Swanson looks at two less obvious parts of the Sunshine State, including a route circumnavigating the lower part of the state and the St. Johns River—a time-travel machine to Old Florida.
Kim and Randy Kalisik present “Cruising the Dry Tortugas.” They describe an amazing cruising getaway to unspoiled reefs, shallow water wrecks and fantastic star gazing. Learn about cruising to the Dry Tortugas by trawler and exploring all the wonders it has to offer, including: beautiful beaches, crystal clear water for snorkeling and diving, local wildlife and a fort that is rich in history.
“The Bahamas & Cuba: Cruising Grounds Compared” is a discussion of the differences between two adjacent island nations separated not just by water, but geography, language, culture and history. Don and Denise Bermant are the presenters.
You can take everyone one of these destination seminars and a boatload of others for single price. Every seminar except the diesel course and “Boat Handling on the Water” are part of our VIP package. Being a four- or six-day VIP gives you access their choice of attending any seminar (except the Diesel engine and on-the-water boat handling course). The cost is $399 for a four-day VIP pass and $499 for the six-day pass. Visit our ticketing site and do some math. You’ll see how being a VIP maximizes your seminar buying power.
